Electronics projects
I've just finished the sound box I'm building for a friend. It's the second one I've built, but his version was much more ambitious.
I found the schematic at MusicFromOuterSpace.com .
Building this electronics project was really validating, for me. I remember playing with electronics when I was a teenager, trying to get things working, shrugging off Ohm's Law like so much schoolwork. I'm glad I can still solder, read a resistor, and use a VOM.
I'd like to build another one, with a built-in drum machine, but I can't seem to find any one-chip solutions for the drums. They USED to have such chips, but said chips are all old and out-of-stock. I guess the new hotness is to embed a microcontroller, and write the drum machine in software. I'm not quite ready to pursue that, though.
